MKB-event F.A.S.T.

A festive moment on Wednesday, April 26, 2023 from 15:15h until 17:30h at Damen in Vlissingen East!

After a winter period at the yard, the autonomous Stan Patrol 900 will be launched again on April 26, 2023!
During the past months, numerous developments have taken place from the Field Lab Autonomous Sailing project to make the vessel autonomous. Which the public can experience with their own eyes during several demonstration days this summer season.

We would like to share this moment with you to look at the possibilities of autonomous technology within your organization and market.

This offers a great opportunity to brainstorm with regional businesses from the maritime, mobility, tourism and logistics industries, local governments and universities about the broader application of autonomous technology in business operations, the regional infrastructure and possible future joint projects.

We would like to finish this festive afternoon with drinks and networking.

The event will take place at Damen in Vlissingen-East at the address: “Ritthemsestraat 500, 4389 PA Ritthem” on Wednesday, April 26, 2023 from 15:15h until approximately 17:30h.

With the following program:

Autonomous sailing on Zeeland waters

In the Field Lab Autonomous Sailing Technology, the Data Science lectorate of HZ University of Applied Sciences is investigating how to provide the situational awareness of autonomously sailing boats with data from cameras and LIDAR among other things. How to integrate this research into education, together with our partners from Delft University of Technology and colleagues within the HZ University of Applied Sciences. Bente Sinke and Mischa Beckers described this subject in the article “Autonomous Sailing on Zeeland Waters”. That article appeared in January 2023 SWZ|Maritime.

Yard Period

This winter a yard period is planned in which we will perform some upgrades on the vessel. We expect to be out of the water for a few months. Meanwhile, CaptainAI is working on an improved version of the Atlantis software that is used for autonomous steering/navigation. And, all data that has been collected will be used to generate a ship dynamics model.

  • New Steering system
  • Upgrading the bridge/wheelhouse
  • New windows
  • Ship dynamics model

Point-to-Point connection

Partners of F.A.S.T. WP4 -Seafar, Vlaeynatie, 3MCT, Rijkswaterstaat, North Sea Port, and HZ University of Applied Sciences,- continue working towards analyzing the details of a concrete point-to-point use case in the Gent-Terneuzen canal. This team intends to deliver detailed insights on what the economic incentives would be for entrepreneurs to opt for remote sailing and to also provide understanding on what is needed from a safety and infrastructure standpoint to realize an autonomous shipping use case in this particular scenario. As next step, the team will host a workshop-like session where a preliminary assessment session focused on identification of hazard scenarios and severity analysis will take place on 16th January 2023 in the Rijkswaterstaat Schelde Coördinatiecentrum in Vlissingen.

HZ Logistics Engineering visits Vlaeynatie facilities

October 2022 – In F.A.S.T. WP4 we’re looking to generate knowledge on the implications of autonomous shipping in our logistics chains in Europe. On the last 6th of October, a group of Logistics Engineering students visited the Vlaeynatie facilities to get detailed information on current barge flows and how economic opportunities can be generated by adding automation in some of the navigation tasks.

Data Collection has started

Wind, Regen, Snelheid, Omgeving.
